Daughter Tekarra made me this striking collaged card for Mother's Day! What's especially intriguing is that she had already made this card when I told her that my vision and plan is to develop my public speaking skills, and using my art practice and life as a platform, be open to taking it to new audiences, new locations! Her image is just that. Coincidence?

Just over twenty years ago Julia Cameron helped usher me onto a new path with her creative teachings in her book, the Artist's Way.

Our journey through this life is a mixture of peaks and valleys, twists and turns, comings and goings...and the list goes on. And through it all, I found my way back to her book six months ago. Within one week of writing, whatever came to mind, my 'morning pages', as Cameron calls them - wondrous events occurred. Three of these - a exhibition date at the VPAG, a visual presentation date at OPUS and reestablishing my relationship with Mountain Galleries - were physical manifestations of what I had written and verbally expressed to others. Enlightening. A quickening. An opening to focus and engage more fully in my art practice and life.

Cameron writes, "Morning pages map our own interior. Without them, our dreams may remain incognito." Thank you for your insight, wisdom and sharing, Julia! This is just the beginning (again)...
So happy to be here in the 'Castle' art room after hanging a selection of paintings and preparing my painting area for my Banff Springs and Mountain Galleries at The Fairmount Residency which begins tomorrow. Nine full days of painting in the Rocky Mountains! Oh how these mountains make my heart race. I am here to immerse myself back into their splendor and capture some of their essence and power in my new Mountainscapes. This paper painting is one of my works featured in the exhibition, Sotto Voce, curated by Katie Brennan at The Lake Country Art Gallery that is on until May 2, 2014. Katie writes, "Sotto voce when translated means "under voice" and denotes an intentional lowering of the volume of one's voice for emphasis." In the past, it has been in the speaking about my work that I tended most to "lower the volume". "Drifting Through Two" is an a new oil on canvas painting delivered to Mountain Galleries in Whistler in May.

It is the last painting in the "River of Golden Dreams" series, as I now turn my focus on vistas and skyscapes inspired by living on a mountain and constantly observing the light and ever-changing, dynamic movement above which effects everything below.

This new work, to be posted soon so stay tuned, will be exhibited in Gallery Odin and in The Pinnacles Suite Hotel on Silver Star Mountain, Vernon, BC this summer.
Gallery Odin Summer Group Exhibition Opens June 29, 2012 www.galleryodin.com
Other pieces have been exhibited at the Fina Gallery, University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna, BC and at Touchstones: Museum of Art & History in Nelson, BC. Two paintings are in private collections and both are on loan to the PAG for this show.

Water has no taste, no color, no odor, it can not be defined, art relished while ever mysterious. And on this gray and snowy white afternoon as we near the shortest day of the year, while I am taking a break from working on some winter landscape paintings in my studio, my thoughts drift back to making this painting this past summer and feeling grateful for all of the four seasons in nature and our lives.Destanne Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464756376344685612noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236040398509282432.post-26470989054091090242010-03-05T20:42:00.001-08:002010-03-05T21:04:53.492-08:00Plant Life 1

Plant Life 1, 2010
acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12"

The air was warm as the sun glazed my body while I ran through Kal Park this morning.
